Olive Oil Cultivar

Our olive oil is an extra virgin cold pressed Olive oil made by Frantoio variety Olive trees, perfectly adapted in this area.\

Frantoio Olives

The Fruit

Once picked, olives will be delivered to the mill for pressing. Frantoio Olives are small to medium size (2 to 3g) and oval in shape. The olives have a pleasant nutty flavour when pickled. When mature, the fruit are coloured purple-black, but at the preferred harvest time for oil production are green and purple-green. The highly noted oil is of fruity character, highly aromatic and of leading quality.

Manzanillo Olive

The Tree

Manzanillo is one of the most widespread varieties in the world. It is also one of the most highly rated table olives varieties in the world. Manzanillo is a low vigour variety with a spreading and medium dense canopy. It has the an early start to bearing and its productivity is high nut alternate.

The Fruit

It starts to ripen at the end of February, earlier than Mission Olives, which is an advantage in areas where frost is common. Under drought conditions the fruit may colour before reaching full size. The fruit is of medium size and is spherical in shape and has a high removal force. It is suitable for almost all styles of table olive processing. If processed at the "red-black stage", a good quality ripe olive can be produced.

Mission Olive

Mission is by far the most popular cultivar grown in South Africa. Because of its suitability to black processing, its reliable production under a wide range of conditions and its dual purpose use.

The Tree

The tree grows vigorously, has an upright growth habit and may reach a height of about 15 metres. For this reason it needs to be regularly topped to facilitate harvesting.

The Fruit

Because the fruit is relatively resistant to bruising, it is easy to pick, transport and handle during processing.

Agronomic Characteristics

Mission is most suitable for black table olives and when correctly processed will five a good quality product with an attractive appearance, medium-firm to plump texture and good taste.
